Devil’s Dipstick

My fascination with fungi is all out of proportion, but these guys were really interesting. Mutinus elegans is the stalk like one also called the Devil’s Dipstick and Aseroe Rubra is the one somewhat like a Sea Anemone. I had never seen either in all of 23 years living on the same property and wandering the same woods and they just popped up.

For more mushroom fun read this fairy tale by Cindy Doran.
